Amid surging customer demand, YANTIAN is enabling customers to complete shipments in the shortest time and capitalize on the policy window
The world's largest LNG-powered vessel—also the first of its kind made in China—made its maiden call to YANTIAN, carrying the highest volume of export containers from South China to global markets
Xinhua News reports: YANTIAN has set a new monthly record for the number of vessels utilizing shore power.
1. YANTIAN enables customers to capitalize on the policy window with speed and precision
Following the release of the Joint Statement on U.S.-China Economic and Trade Meeting in Geneva, the latest round of China-U.S. tariffs has officially taken effect. Shippers moved quickly to leverage the 90-day policy window and accelerate their deliveries.
In response to the surge in logistics demand, YANTIAN acted promptly. As a preferred port-of-call for mega-vessels and the last port-of-call from China on many key services, YANTIAN delivers dense, extensive, fast, and high-quality international shipping services. In the first four months of this year alone, YANTIAN added six new services linking ports across Europe, the Americas, and Asia, with more than 100 weekly services connecting to global destinations. These new services not only give customers greater flexibility and choice in a fast-evolving market, but also provide a robust and efficient transport network. This enables faster cargo handling and delivery, helping customers seize a critical shipping window and ensuring smooth, timely flows across global industrial and supply chains.
🌟Dense: YANTIAN boasts the most frequent services to Europe and US in South China, with an average of 4 services to Europe and 6 services to US daily, complemented by over 10 cross-border e-commerce express shipping services.
🌟Extensive: The services cover a myriad of overseas destinations, offering hundreds of weekly services globally.
🌟Fast: As the last-port-of-call for most services from China, YANTIAN ensures the quickest delivery of cargoes to their destination ports (12.5 days to the US, 11 days to Australia).
🌟High-quality: YANTIAN has efficient operational capabilities and a favourable customs clearance environment.
02 The world's first and largest 24,000-TEU dual-fuel LNG-powered mega-vessel made its maiden call to YANTIAN
Building on these strengths, on April 29, YANTIAN welcomed the maiden call of the CMA CGM SEINE—the world's first and largest 24,000-TEU dual-fuel LNG-powered mega-vessel, built in China for the CMA CGM Group. This ocean-going giant loaded over 6,000 TEUs at YANTIAN. Among all its China port calls, YANTIAN served as both the only stop in South China and the last port-of-call before the vessel set sail for key global destinations including Le Havre (France), Rotterdam (Netherlands), Hamburg (Germany), Antwerp (Belgium), Tangier (Morocco), and Port Klang (Malaysia).
03. YANTIAN x China Southern Power Grid: Smart shore power system sets new monthly record for vessel connections
Xinhua News reports: On May 5, the OOCL Portugal—one of the world's largest-class container vessels—safely berthed at YANTIAN. Crew members connected the vessel to the terminal's shore power system by lowering onboard cables to the dock. With a simple switch, power was transferred from the vessel's auxiliary engines to the onshore grid.
As the only terminal to have received the Best Green Container Terminal award four times, YANTIAN set a new monthly record in April, providing shore power to nearly 120 vessels to—an average of almost four vessels per day.
Shore power allows berthed vessels to draw electricity from the grid rather than rely on onboard diesel generators, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 98%. Since 2016, YANTIAN has partnered with China Southern Power Grid's Yantian Branch to deploy six intelligent shore power systems, while also exploring the integration of 5G, AI, and big data technologies into port energy infrastructure.
As one of the earliest large-scale adopters of shore power in China, and a container terminal with the largest shore power capacity and widest berth coverage in China, YANTIAN delivered nearly 25 million kWh of clean electricity to vessels in 2024, cutting carbon emissions by approximately 19,000 tonnes.
Looking ahead, YANTIAN will continue to collaborate with partners to strengthen both domestic and global connectivity. It is committed to building a world-class international shipping hub, supporting Shenzhen’s ambition to become a logistics centre with global influence, and contributing to the high-quality development of China's international trade and resilient and stable global industrial and supply chains.
