On 18 November 2009, the CMA CGM Christophe Colomb, one of the world's largest container vessels, made its maiden call at YICT. At the time, YICT loaded about 2,600 containers on board the vessel.
The 13,346-TEU vessel measures 365.5 metres long and has a draft of 15.5 metres. It is equipped with cutting-edge devices that maximise propulsion efficiency and optimise the vessel's hydrodynamics. The electronically controlled engine helps reduce oil consumption by 25 percent, cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 2 to 4 percent.
The vessel is deployed to the FAL 7 Service, a European service jointly operated by CMA CGM and Maersk. FAL 7 vessels follow a port rotation of Shanghai, Ningbo, Xiamen, Hong Kong, Yantian, Algeciras, Rotterdam and Bremerhaven.
