On 19 April 2009, YICT welcomed the first call of the Far East - Panama Service (FPS), an upgraded Central American service operated by Evergreen. The service offers customers faster transit times to Central America, the Caribbean, and the west coast of South America. It now takes just 17 days for cargo from Yantian to reach the port of Lazaro Cardenas in Mexico.
The new service includes seven 2,800-plus TEU vessels, including the 2,824-TEU Irenes Remedy, which made the service's maiden voyage. FPS ships call at Yantian every Sunday and follow a port rotation of Ningbo, Shanghai, Yantian, Kaohsiung, Lazaro Cardenas, Colon and Ningbo, with round trips taking 49 days.
