On 15 November 2008, during the 15th Anniversary Celebration of Motorola University-China, YICT was awarded for "Best Six Sigma Practice" in a list of commendations for excellent participants and instructors in Six Sigma implementation.

Six Sigma is a business management strategy originally developed by Motorola in 1986. It enjoys widespread application today in many sectors of industry. In 2002, YICT began applying the Six Sigma methodology with the support of Motorola University and implemented process innovation initiatives throughout the company soon after. Less than two years later, YICT's terminal operation efficiency indicators, including quay crane rate and truck turnaround time, substantially improved, reaching world-class levels.
