On 19 February 2008, YICT staff members launched a donation drive to help victims of severe snowstorms that have affected South China since mid-January. A total of RMB160,216.87 was collected as of 22 February.
The proceeds will be given to the Yantian District Charity Association, a public, non-profit organisation that consists of individual and group volunteers who receive, operate and manage donations in the name of charity. The association will then distribute the donations to the affected areas to help fund restoration work.
The donation drive follows a visit of several YICT volunteers to the Shenzhen Railway Station before the Lunar New Year holiday in order to comfort and assist passengers who had been stranded by the extreme weather.
