The CKYH Alliance (COSCO, "K" Line, Yang Ming and Hanjin) started a new pendulum service linking the Mediterranean, Asia and the US from mid-July. On 19 July 2007, YICT welcomed the maiden vessel call of the "Hanjin Phoenix", deployed to the new Mediterranean Asia America Pendulum (MAP) service. This service combines the existing China Mediterranean Express (CMX) service and Pacific Southwest (PAS) service, deploying a total of 12 container vessels.
The MAP service calls at Yantian every Thursday with a port rotation of Port Said, Naples, La Spezia, Barcelona, Suez Canal, Port Klang, Singapore, Hong Kong, Yantian, Osaka, Tokyo, Long Beach and Oakland.
The launch of this new pendulum service will enable a direct service from Japan to the Mediterranean. This service is expected to improve competitiveness by enhancing schedule reliability through the upgrading of the main fleet of 4,000 TEU class vessels to mid- and large-scale vessels having capacities between 4,500 and 5,500 TEU.
