To celebrate World Environment Day on 5 June, YICT launched its first Environmental Awareness Promotion Week. During this week, a series of functions will be held to promote environmental protection within the port area.
The promotion week is aimed at highlighting the importance of environmental protection among all YICT staff. On the first day of the event, competitors from different departments, all determined to win, took part in the environmental awareness contest. An exhibition featuring original works of art made of refuse, all created by YICT staff and their family members, is also held, and creative ideas about environmental protection are shared. At the end of the week, the best artwork and ideas will be recognised.
Staff also have the chance to enjoy An Inconvenient Truth, the winner in the "Best Documentary" category at the 79th Academy Awards (the Oscars). After the showing, staff will share their comments and exchange opinions about the documentary, and environmental awareness in general.
Presently, these lively activities have attracted the attention and active participation of a large number of staff.
Through enhancements in technology, the reconfiguration of port facilities, the replacement of used/malfunctioning machines with advanced new ones, the improvement of its environment monitoring system, the implementation of its environmental protection policy and the further development of IT, YICT is currently well on the way to achieving its ‘green port’ goal. The Environmental Awareness Promotion Week is yet another clear example of how YICT is working to protect and preserve the environment.
