On 5 December 2005, a grand inaugural ceremony was held by Hanjin at YICT to welcome the ‘Hanjin Yantian’, which is a newly launched container vessel bound for the American west coast service.
‘Hanjin Yantian’ is 300 metres long and 42.8 metres wide, with a draught of 13 metres and a shipping capacity of 8,000 TEU, or in other words, the vessel would be able to carry close to 600,000 computer monitors.
Despite its huge size, the ‘Hanjin Yantian’ is still able to sail at high speeds. With a maximum cruising speed of 25 knots, it takes her just 11 days to travel from Shenzhen direct to Seattle, offering yet another competitive option to ship your export cargo.
Following the introduction of mega vessels by some of the major shipping lines, Hanjin has also enhanced its shipping capacity through the use of these types of vessels. In 2005, Hanjin deployed five 8,000 TEU vessels to increase its shipping capacity from Yantian to other ports throughout the world.
Hanjin expressed that they not only feel optimistic about the healthy marketplace and their expansion potential in Shenzhen and its neighbouring areas, but they also believe YICT’s efficient operations and services will help reinforce Hanjin’s services.
To date, Hanjin has opened eight international shipping services at YICT, which go direct to America, Asia and Europe. They provide customers with multiple fast and efficient shipping choices.
This is the seventh container vessel in the world to be christened with ‘Yantian’ included in its name.
