On 21 October 2004, the Container Branch of the China Port Association released a list of the top 10 ports in China for the first time. Ranking first on the list, YICT was also honoured as "the best container terminal in China in terms of efficiency of handling one single vessel".
Organised by the branch, the annual appraisal of container terminals attracted 54 container terminal operators. The panel reviewed the participants in eight areas including business results, operational rate, customer service, staff's know-how, social responsibility, renovation, development potential and management quality. The final result reveals that YICT tops other national ports, followed by Shanghai Port and Qianwan in Qindao.
