On 25 April 2003, Mr. Yu Peihong, Vice Captain of Yantian District Traffic Police Brigade, addressed the Communication Meeting between YICT and Trucking Companies. He stated that the brigade had recruited 20 traffic assistants to help control traffic during the operation peak-season in the terminal. The assistants will assist traffic police round the clock in directing traffic on main roads around the terminal.
With great support from the Shenzhen Municipal Government, the Yantian District Traffic Police Brigade has co-ordinated proactively with YICT. Building on experience from Baoan and Longgang Districts, the brigade has recruited traffic assistants to overcome the shortage of traffic police in the port. These 20 traffic assistants will report for duty on 10 June 2003. Mr. Yu called on all truck drivers to obey the directions of the traffic assistants, maintaining orderly traffic around the terminal jointly.
Moreover, to ensure the smooth flow of traffic during the construction of Mingzhu Interchange, YICT and Shenzhen Yantian Port Group jointly have invested in building a temporary road. The road will be open to traffic on 29 April 2003. At the meeting, YICT presented those present with a temporary route for entering the terminals upon completion of the temporary road. A printed traffic map was issued as well. The temporary road connects Mingzhu Road and YICT Main Entrance Road over a length of 1,658 metres and with a width of 14 metres. It has two one-way lanes. The driving speed is designed to be 30 km/hour. All the necessary traffic signs have been installed.
For better communication, YICT gave the guests a presentation on the progress of initiatives taken by YICT this year. The projects include the renovation of existing facilities, purchasing operation equipment, upgrading computer management systems, processing innovation initiatives and recruiting frontline staff. After the meeting, the guests expressed their confidence with the upcoming operation peak season in the terminal.
A total of 260 representatives from the trucking companies, officials of Yantian District Traffic Police and management members of YICT attended the meeting.
