On 1 April 2003, Shenzhen Yantian Port Group (YPG) and Yantian International Container Terminals (YICT) are pleased to announce the commencement of the construction of the Mingzhu Interchange. Certain to be an important road network in Yantian, the Mingzhu Interchange will be of great assistance for transportation passing through the area. Not only will it smooth traffic heading to Gold Beach from Shenzhen or vice versa, it will also aid container trucks accessing the terminals and residents traveling to and from the district as well.
Located at the junction of Shenyan Road and Mingzhu Road, the construction of the Mingzhu Interchange is associated with Yantian Port's Phase III project and funded by the Hutchison Port Holdings Group and YPG, the shareholders of Yantian International Container Terminals (Phase III) Limited. The total investment amounts to RMB 240 million. YPG will be responsible for the construction of the Interchange, which has been designed as an overpass crossing both Shenyan Road and Mingzhu Road. It will provide an important link for downtown Yantian to the west, Dameisha and Xiaomeisha to the east, the Yantian port to the south, and the warehousing areas in the surrounding land to the north. It is estimated that the project will be completed and opened to public by the end of this year.
By separating public traffic from container trucks, the Mingzhu Interchange will help both to alleviate traffic congestion and to encourage investment in the development of the tourism industry on the east coast. The Mingzhu Interchange, together with the construction of Yantian Highway, a road linking the Yantian Port to the Jihe Highway construction of which, set to commence next year, will also support in the Municipal government's policy of developing the port to promote the city's economy.
To ensure minimal traffic interference throughout the construction of Mingzhu Interchange, container trucks will begin using the new temporary road and flyover to access the terminals, vehicles involved in the construction of Phase III at YICT will continue using the original railway bridge, and public traffic will continue to use the existing six lanes of Shayan Road.
