On 26 October 2002, YICT opened its doors to high-school students from Yantian District once again, continuing its efforts to increase and enhance communication with the community while providing students with an opportunity to broaden their horizons.
YICT greeted its first group of more than 60 visitors comprised of students from Yantian High School. Upon arrival at YICT, the students enthusiastically explored the Exhibition Room and the Operation Control Tower. Later, they boarded the pleasure-boat, “Southern Pearl”, to better appreciate the busy but well-organised terminals from the water. On board, the students looked over more than 60 exhibition boards, which had been specially prepared for them. Through the tour and the exhibition boards, the students gained a greater appreciation of the scale of a modern container terminal and the power of modern technology. Moreover, they developed a better understanding of terminal development, operation procedures and the efforts YICT has made to improve transportation around the terminals.
Following the day’s function, YICT decided to invite other students from Shatoujiao High School to visit and enjoy the same presentation.
The first YICT Open Day, on 20 October 2001, received positive feedback from the teachers and students in Yantian District. YICT has decided to continue and further develop its open-house activities, to let the community better understand the terminal operations.
