The end of March has seen green activities taking full swing at YICT.
To mark Earth Hour, YICT turned off the LED logo on the roof of its administration building between 20:30 and 21:30 on 23 March in support of the World Wildlife Fund’s climate change initiative. Staff members were also encouraged to switch off unnecessary lighting at both the workplace and at home.
YICT’s Environmental Committee organised a documentary film screening on 22 March to observe World Water Day. ‘Earth Ride’, which features the incredible journey of a droplet of water, helped raise environmental awareness among staff members. Over the past few years, YICT has been engaging in a number of water-saving and recycling initiatives such as using rainwater and reusing the treated wastewater and condensed water from its air conditioning system. Together, these green efforts have helped save 12,600 cubic metres of water per year.
YICT has always been keen to learn from other green-operating organisations. On 22 March, accompanied by YICT’s Environmental Committee, the MTR’s Environmental Committee toured YICT’s environmental projects. During the visit, the two parties also exchanged ideas on environmental protection.
