On 21 August 2013,YICT welcomed the inaugural call from the world’s largest containership and the second of the Triple-E vessels, the 18,000 TEU Majestic Maersk. On 24 July, its sistership the Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller made its inaugural call at YICT.
Measuring 400 metres long and59 metres wide, the Majestic Maersk has a metacentric height of 73 metres, which is almost as tall as a 30-storeybuilding. Its deck alone covers an area equal to three football pitches. The vessel is operating on Maersk Line’s Asia-Europe service AE10W loop, calling at Ningbo, Shanghai, Yantian, Tanjung Pelepas, Suez Canal, Rotterdam, Bremerhaven, Gdansk, Åarhus, Gothenburg and Algeciras. During its maiden stop at YICT, 1,755 containers were handled.
As a preferred port-of-call, YICT has welcomed 506 mega-vessels in the first seven months of this year, each with a carrying capacity in excess of 10,000 TEU.
