On 26 May 2020, with the call of “Margrethe Maersk” at Berth #9, YANTIAN was proud to accommodate five 400-meter-long vessels simultaneously—“CMA CGM Kerguelen”, “MSC Isabella”, “Monaco Maersk”, “MSC Jade”, and “Margrethe Maersk”. This is the first time that five mega-vessels with respective deadweight of over 200,000 tons have simultaneously berthed at a port in China. It is also a rare occurrence at ports globally.
To welcome the five ultra-large container vessels simultaneously, YANTIAN has carried out careful planning and preparation in advance. An average of six quay cranes for each vessel has been deployed to ensure safe and efficient operations. During the call of the five vessels at YANTIAN, 27,000 TEU were handled.
Simultaneous calls from mega-vessels has been a common scene at the quay side of Yantian. Over the years, YANTIAN has never ceased improving the terminal operations to serve ultra-large vessels, enhancing supporting logistics services, and building itself into a smart ,green and world-class port and an international shipping hub in the Bay Area to provide professional and efficient port services.
