On 23 June 2020, YANTIAN received the maiden call of the new ZEX (ZIM eCommerce Xpress) service, the first cross-border e-commerce express service in South China. It takes just 12 days for cargo from YANTIAN to reach Los Angeles and is the fastest shipping route from South China to the west coast of the United States.
With the growth of cross-border e-commerce customers in the United States plus the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, online shopping has gradually become a mainstream consumer choice. The new service brings convenience to the shipping of cross-border e-commerce cargo from South China to the overseas market.
ZIM has deployed five vessels to serve the route, which call at YANTIAN every Tuesday and depart for Los Angeles on Wednesday after loading the cargo. This service reduces 20% of the transit time for cargo shipped from South China to the west coast of the United States. Exporters in Shenzhen, Huizhou, Dongguan, and even the west of the Pearl River can also enjoy the convenience of the ZIM Xpress via intermodal services and port alliance.
A ceremony to celebrate this event was held on the same day, and was attended by guests from related government departments, port supervisory authorities, shipping lines and cargo owners.
