On January 2, the first Chilean cherries import of YANTIAN arrived through “Ever Lawful”, the vessel on the Chile-YANTIAN direct service, which is also the first import of Chilean cherries of the season to the Pearl River Delta region.

Under the strict pandemic preventative measures, YANTIAN worked with the Customs, customers and all parties involved to unload cherries for clearance with the shipside pickup model to ensure the freshness of the fruit.

Fruit cargo poses high requirements on timeliness. Leveraging the first-class business environment, a series of convenient measures such as advance declaration and release upon unloading, YANTIAN greatly reduces clearance time for fresh fruit, ensuring that they can be transported to the market as soon as possible. With advance declaration, the terminal can obtain the instructions of inspection or direct release in advance to arrange unloading operations. Hence, customers can pick up the cargo at the earliest time.

Direct shipping and feeder network for more fresh fruit import

On January 3, the feeder "Guang Xing 298", loaded with approximately 100 containers of Chilean cherries imported from Hong Kong, arrived at YANTIAN. With the existing 15 feeder services, YANTIAN links up with terminals in Hong Kong, the Pearl River Delta, East and West Guangdong, facilitating cargo transportation and distribution for customers in and around the Pearl River Delta.

In 2021, YANTIAN had good track record in both pandemic prevention and terminal operational performance. It witnessed nearly 30% growth in containerised fruit import year-on-year, with 15 new types of imported fruits. The fresh mangosteens, raisins, durians and longan imported via YANTIAN were well received by consumers. While providing efficient services, YANTIAN is also committed to making Yantian Port a cold chain logistics service complex featuring the shortest clearance time, lowest logistics cost, highest security level and strongest capabilities.

International shipping services and cold chain support create a key gateway and trading center for frozen food in the Greater Bay Area

In recent years, YANTIAN has been committed to developing cold chain service for imports and exports, handling over 100,000 TEUs of reefer cargo annually. With its advantages in international service network and service excellence, YANTIAN has become the third largest port for frozen meat imports in China and the terminal of choice for cold chain imports in South China, accounting for more than 90% of frozen meat imports in Shenzhen.

YANTIAN has well-developed facilities -- nearly 4,000 reefer slots in the terminal, 120,000 tons of cold storage capacity, the largest and best equipped supervision facility for imported meat in South China, ensuring the stacking, inspection and storage of reefer cargo.

With an area of 30,000 m², of which more than 2,000 m² is an integrated cold-chain facility for storage and customs supervision, the project has 29 slots for container inspection, two cold rooms with adjustable temperature ranging from 4℃ to -18℃.

With over 90 international weekly services, YANTIAN is the container hub port for popular imported fruits from South America, North America and Southeast Asia. YANTIAN will further seize opportunities brought by cold chain imports. On the one hand, it will continue to strengthen cooperation with shipping lines to attract more services to YANTIAN, with more frozen meat and fresh fruit import from Europe, North America and South America. On the other hand, it will continue to apply for more import qualifications to provide customers with one-stop cold chain import services. In addition, with the completion of Yantian Port Intelligent Cold Chain Industrial Park and Your Sender Supply Chain Intelligent Warehouse, the overall cold storage area in Yantian Port will be doubled. Together with the surrounding cold chain facilities, YANTIAN will strive to establish itself as a key gateway and trading center for reefer cargo in the Greater Bay Area.
