In order to extend the port function to the inland areas and enable more customers to benefit from the intermodal service, YANTIAN established its 7th inland port in Longchuan. On May 10, a ceremony was held to celebrate the launch of the new inland port in Longchuan County, Heyuan City, Guangdong Province. Cai Xin, Vice Director of Shenzhen Transport Bureau, Liu Bo, Member of the Standing Committee of CPC Heyuan Municipal Committee and Vice Mayor of Heyuan Municipal Government, Liu Li, Secretary of CPC Committee of Longchuan County, Liu Zhihong, Director-General of Heyuan Customs, Song Haitao, Director of Guangzhou Freight Centre of China Railway Guangzhou Group, and representatives of Yantian Port Group and YANTIAN attended the ceremony.
A new inland port in Longchuan
In the morning, the first train fully loaded with toys departed Longchuan Station for Yantian Port, marking the establishment of the 7th inland port of YANTIAN.
Longchuan County is located in the Northeastern Guangdong and is the sub-regional center of Heyuan City. The Longchuan Inland Port has a yard of 21,200 square meters, capable of stacking about 2,000 TEU of containers. Customers can enjoy fast, safe and eco-friendly logistics solutions in Longchuan with convenient container pickup and grounding services.
The opening of Longchuan Inland Port is another important achievement of the "1+2+N" strategic cooperation between YANTIAN and China Railway Guangzhou Group. For a long period of time, the two sides have been working together to develop intermodal services, extending port services to the hinterlands to boost their open economy and promote YANTIAN to be the international shipping hub in the Greater Bay Area. YANTIAN established the inland port in Pinghu South in July last year (for more details, please see YANTIAN Celebrates the Establishment of Its Inland Port in Pinghu South and the Launch of “Hutchison Ports Yantian” Container Rail Service), and now Longchuan Inland Port will further enrich YANTIAN's service network. Up to now, YANTIAN has opened 7 inland ports, including Pinghu South, Changping, Ganzhou, Heyuan, Heshan, Liling and Longchuan. Among them, exporters of Ganzhou and Pinghu South inland ports now can enjoy one-stop cargo declaration, inspection, and release, and other five inland ports will have the same functions in succession.
1-fold increase of export laden containers year-on-year from January to April
As the container hub of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area and the largest container port in the world run by a single terminal operator, YANTIAN launched its intermodal service in 1996 and is one of the first ports in China to launch this service.
YANTIAN is connected to the major national rail lines via the Pingyan Railway, which is the only dedicated intermodal service in Shenzhen Port that seamlessly connects the port area with the national railway network. The services to the areas inside Guangdong province and to the areas of Central China are operated on a daily basis. YANTIAN now has 23 intermodal services, extending the port function to the vast hinterland of China.
Under the close cooperation with the China Railway Guangzhou Group, YANTIAN's intermodal service throughput generated by international trade has always been in the forefront of domestic ports. In 2021, the internodal throughput of Yantian Port made a new breakthrough against the trend, reaching 286,000 TEU, an increase of 34% year-on-year, meeting the requirement in the State Council's "Action Plan for Carbon Dioxide Peaking Before 2030" to reach an annual growth of 15%.
This year, the Ministry of Transport and the National Development and Reform Commission jointly announced that 20 projects, including the "Yantian Port’s Asia-Pacific-Pan-Pearl River Delta-Europe International Multimodal Service Project", have been recognised as "National Multimodal Service Demonstration Project". Yantian Port is the only port in Shenzhen to receive this distinction (for more details, please see Yantian Port Recognised as "National Multimodal Service Demonstration Project")
Since this year, YANTIAN has sped up its development of intermodal service. It launched YANTIAN-Jiangmen and YANTIAN-Jieyang intermodal services, "Dongguan-Yantian-Hong Kong" intermodal express service, and Longchuan Inland Port one after another. From January to April 2022, YANTIAN handled over 40,000 TEU export laden containers, a 1-fold increase. In addition, the "Dongguan-Yantian-Hong Kong" intermodal express service, with the "one container to the end" model, has shipped nearly 800 TEU of supplies to Hong Kong, providing a new channel for efficient shipment of supplies to Hong Kong.
Improve the layout of inland ports and promote the high-quality development of intermodal service
"YANTIAN actively responds to the call of the government to develop intermodal service to further boost green development. We will continue to work together with all parties involved to improve the layout of inland ports and promote the high-quality development of intermodal service network." Said Lawrence Shum, Managing Director of Hutchison Ports YANTIAN,"In the face of the epidemic, while following COVID-19 response guidelines and optimising epidemic preventive measures, we will make every effort to improve terminal productivity. We will leverage the role of Shenzhen as a port-based national logistics hub to better serve the high-quality development of international trade in the Greater Bay Area, make contributions to achieve carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, and ensure the smooth operations of the supply chain and the industrial chain."
