Open a New Chapter for Cross-border E-commerce in Yantian

Yantian District Government and Shenzhen Cross-border E-Commerce Association (SZCBEA) signed a cooperation framework agreement to jointly build and propel the formation of the cross-border e-commerce industrial ecosystem in Yantian.

On August 29, Yantian District Government and SZCBEA signed a cooperation framework agreement to deepen cooperation in cross-border e-commerce platform, logistics, and payment in the future to build a favourable business environment and cross-border e-commerce industrial ecosystem in Yantian, attracting more enterprises to settle in. The signing ceremony was attended by Deng Feibo, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Yantian District Committee and Head of Yantian District Government, Wang Xin, Executive Chairperson of SZCBEA, Zeng Jinhui, Director of E-Commerce Department of Commerce Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality, Xu Min, Deputy Director of Ports & Shipping Administration Department of Transport Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality, Zeng Jianpeng, Member of the Standing Committee of Yantian District CPC Committee and Deputy Head of Yantian District Government, Li Qiangqiang, Deputy Head of Yantian District Government, and Lawrence Shum, Managing Director of Hutchison Ports YANTIAN.

At the ceremony, Li Qiangqiang, Deputy Head of Yantian District Government, and Xie Zhuoheng, Secretary General of SZCBEA Yantian Branch, signed the cooperation agreement. Deng Feibo and Wang Xin unveiled the plaque of Cross-Border E-Commerce Demonstration Park of Yantian District, Shenzhen. Representatives of Yantian District Industry and Informatization Bureau signed intended agreement for settlement with enterprises of the cross-border e-commerce industry chain, including LWT Logistics and JYD International, to jointly build a prosperous cross-border e-commerce industrial ecosystem in Yantian.

Yantian Port, a natural deep-water port, is the world's largest container terminal run by a single terminal operator in terms of throughput. It serves over 1/3 of the import and export container traffic of Guangdong province and 1/4 of that generated by the Sino-US trade, providing15 e-commerce express services. Given its advantages in port and warehousing facilities, Yantian Port is the terminal-of-choice for cross-border e-commerce merchants in South China.

Yantian District has taken the initiative to deepen the cooperation with SZCBEA to improve the industrial ecology and seize new opportunities for cross-border e-commerce.

Li Qiangqiang, Deputy Head of Yantian District Government, said that, "Yantian District will continue to leverage its advantage as the terminal-of-choice for cross-border e-commerce in South China, launch the "Five Ones" campaign—rolling out one policy, building one industrial park, establishing one institute, founding one branch, and setting up one dedicated team—and further expand the market size of cross-border e-commerce industry by vigorously developing cross-border e-commerce logistics services. We expect that by signing this cooperation agreement, we can further promote industrial interaction and gather enterprises in the ecosystem together to support the development of an international shipping hub and an offshore trade center, making greater contributions to the city's cross-border e-commerce growth and the international trade prosperity in China."

Wang Xin, Executive Chairperson of SZCBEA, said that, "SZCBEA is the initiator and advocate of cross-border e-commerce industry standards, and is committed to leading and promoting the development of the entire cross-border e-commerce ecosystem. In the future, we will deepen the cooperation with Yantian District to attract and introduce more projects of supply chain services, warehousing services, logistics technology, talent training, intellectual property rights, and more to build a cross-border e-commerce logistics headquarter and a cross-border e-commerce service hub in South China, improving the tourism consumption, economic flows, economic scale, innovation, and production factor agglomeration in Yantian."

YANTIAN is the Honorary President Organization of SZCBEA Yantian Branch. Lawrence Shum, Managing Director of Hutchison Ports YANTIAN, said that, "Given the rapid development of cross-border e-commerce in Yantian District, YANTIAN will leverage the important role played by the Yantian Port to provide strong supply chain support for cross-border e-commerce brands to go global. While launching new services, YANTIAN will also develop intermodal services, inland ports, and port alliances to streamline clearance procedures, innovate business models, and provide more stable channels and better services for e-merchants. We aim to build Yantian Port into the terminal-of-choice for the import and export of cross-border e-commerce and return and transshipment of commodities in South China, and establish Yantian District as the headquarter for cross-border e-commerce logistics."

Jin Hong, Executive Director of Newegg Group Shenzhen, expressed her gratitude to Yantian District for its efficient and premium services for enterprises. Newegg Group, one of the major players of cross-border e-commerce in North America, has settled its e-commerce business in Yantian and will accelerate the development of businesses like cross-border logistics chain, cross-border sales live broadcast, and overseas business agent services for sellers to empower the growth of cross-border e-commerce in Yantian District.


Serving as the bridge of communication of the industry, YANTIAN has organised a number of activities after the SZCBEA Yantian Branch was established in early July, including communicating with Shenzhen Yantian State Administration of Taxation, holding a seminar on cross-border e-commerce tax process, and introducing e-commerce platforms and enterprises to Yantian District. In the future, guided by the development strategy of cross-border e-commerce in Yantian, YANTIAN will continue to work with government departments at all levels and port supervisory authorities to build a global reverse logistics center and the e-commerce industrial park of Yantian District, improve cross-border e-commerce customs supervision and other facilities, and optimise supporting services to achieve high-quality development of the industry.

As designed in the cooperation agreement, both sides shall work together to establish a harmonious, close, and comprehensive partnership based on the principle of "long-term benefits, in-depth interaction, complementary advantages, and win-win cooperation" to achieve common development and sustainable cooperation. The goal is to build a cross-border e-commerce logistics headquarter in Yantian with businesses like cross-border e-commerce, cross-border medicine, cross-border logistics, and cross-border finance as the core by leveraging the "core area + cooperation area" projects in Yantian, and Yantian's advantages in port logistics, bonded areas, connections with Hong Kong, and advanced industrial ecosystem; pilot the cross-border e-commerce reverse logistics in Yantian; and build a favourable industrial ecology.

In the future, YANTIAN will continue to work with SZCBEA, government departments, and partners at home and abroad to explore new paths for industry development, promote the formation of a cluster effect generated by cross-border e-commerce and other shipping and logistics enterprises in Yantian District, so that the port and logistics industries can support and reinforce each other, significantly improving the competitiveness of the cross-border e-commerce in Yantian.
