From July 13 to 14, the 2023 Shenzhen Skills Competition-Electric Port Machinery Operator Skills Competition was held in YANTIAN. 

The competition attracted 62 contestants from 18 large ports in China, and a total of 16 contestants from YANTIAN advanced to the final. Among the top 10 players, 8 are from YANTIAN, and YANTIAN finally took both the first and second places home.

Zhong Biao, electric port machinery operator, won the "Master Craftsman" and "Shenzhen Technical Expert" awards. Luo Caiwen, Zhu Yong, Liu Junhao, Huang Weidong, Jie Yulue, and Wang Yifei were awarded "Shenzhen Technical Expert".

Zhong Biao, who won the championship, has won the first place in the YANTIAN Forklift Skills Competition back in 2019. Over the years, he has worked hard at the port, improving his skills in the high-quality training provided by the company. From 2017 to 2018, he was awarded the excellent operator 3 times. The championship of Shenzhen Skills Competition ushered in a new chapter in his career. He said in an interview, "This competition has high standards when it comes to operational precision and agility because we need to lift goblets with a forklift. It can greatly improve our skills and the cohesion of our team."

To assess contestants' operational skills, the final round required them to use forklifts to perform operations such as moving, container placement, goblet stacking, precise stacking of containers, and reversing into the warehouse. The whole operation process should be smooth and the principles of "stable and gentle placement" and "silent operation" should be followed when lifting and placing containers. The competition used infrared devices to score contestants automatically, mainly assessing their judgement capabilities in narrow space, the accuracy and agility of putting/picking up containers, the accuracy of container stacking, micro-controls and position judgement, and the efficiency of operation, etc. All the contestants showcased their excellent skills during the final round and deeply impressed everyone.

Before the final, YANTIAN gathered all contestants on June 30 to cheer them up, hoping that they would achieve good results in the competition.

The team leader of Qingdao Port, said in an interview, "We want to learn the innovative concepts and advanced experience of YANTIAN in cultivating skilled workers, which will be of great help to our staff training." This Electric Port Machinery Operator Skills Competition is one of the two "Master Craftsman" events in Shenzhen, and it is also the city's highest-level vocational skills competition. The event not only helps port workers themselves improve their skills and grow their careers, but also enables Yantian Port, Shenzhen, and even for the whole country to select outstanding specialists, improving the social status of professional technicians.

YANTIAN has been committed to enhancing port development in China and developing more skilled talent, especially the younger generation, to facilitate their career success and cultivate more talent to fulfill strategies such as "manufacturing industry as the mainstay", "industry and innovation-driven development", and Shenzhen's "20+8" industrial cluster development.

At the closing ceremony, Gao Dongchun, member of the Standing Committee of Yantian District CPC Committee and Vice Governor of Yantian District, made a speech and said, "Dreams light up the way ahead, and it is the right time to make progress. Yantian District will, as always, support the development of various types of talent, care for and serve technical specialists through policy and government service system improvement, to create favourable conditions for technical specialists to grow, release their potential, and eventually create a brighter future together!"
