On October 31, fully loaded with containers, “Chang Yuan 003” departed from Xiaolan Port in Zhoushan for Yantian Port in Shenzhen, starting the journey of the new YANTIAN-Xiaolan Port Alliance. Upon arrival at the Yantian Port, containers will be loaded onto line-haul vessels bound for Ireland. In addition, we have another piece of good news: the YANTIAN-Jiangmen High-tech Port Alliance has also been approved. 

Advantageous port alliance with strong customs support
Under the clearance model of port alliance, Xiaolan Port and Yantian Port can share data on cargoes and realise mutual recognition of customs supervision. The whole process of cargo delivery only requires one declaration, one inspection, and one release. Factories and enterprises in Zhongshan only need to go through "one-stop" declaration and customs inspection, and the cargoes will be shipped directly to Yantian Port for export through feeders.

This one-stop model changes the traditional transshipment between the two customs offices, reduces formalities, saves time, and greatly improving the port logistics efficiency. The average cargo storage period is shortened from 7 days to 2 days, which brings great convenience to international trade enterprises.

Chen Yang, first-level administrative enforcement officer of the Ship Supervision Section of the Dapeng Customs said in an interview, "Port alliance model connects inland ports and hub ports in Shenzhen, driving cargo exports from the wider cargo catchment areas in the Greater Bay Area.

Excellent geographic location with abundant cargo sources
Zhongshan City has a well-developed manufacturing industry, and Xiaolan is the city's major manufacturing town, with a large number of factories and industrial clusters and a huge demand for exports. Zhongshan Port is a regionally key river port in Guangdong Province and a major feeder port in the Pearl River Delta, of which Xiaolan Port mainly serves international trade enterprises, accounting for more than 90% of cargo exports. From January to September this year, Xiaolan Port  handled about 2.52 million tonnes of cargo and a container throughput of 343,000 TEU, making it the busiest port in Zhongshan.

Jiangmen is a century-old industrial city with a solid industrial and manufacturing foundation. In the wave of industrial innovation and transformation, Jiangmen has been promoting the digital transformation for its traditional industries, and opens up new tracks like silicon energy, new energy batteries, and intelligent equipment. Jiangmen High-tech Port is a key link in the international transportation network of the Greater Bay Area as well as a logistics hub in its western wing. Boosting product exports through the connection of the river and the sea is highly in line with the green, low-carbon, energy-saving, and efficient development concepts advocated by YANTIAN and the Jiangmen Municipal Government.

Up to now, YANTIAN has opened 8 port alliances in the Greater Bay Area. As the largest container terminal run by a single operator, YANTIAN has a unique 18-metre-deep and 475-metre-wide natural approach channel in the Greater Bay Area that can allow 7/24 passage of 200,000-ton vessels in both directions with "zero time difference" and "zero tidal range".

YANTIAN is a pioneer in Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation for 30 years and boasts about a dense network of ocean shipping services, attracting nearly 40 globally renowned shipping companies to call. We have the most Europe and America services in South China, with an average of 4 services per day to Europe, and 6 services per day to the Americas, covering the most overseas ports of destination. On a weekly basis, there are approximately 100 services to major ports worldwide.
