This service fully optimises the resource and geographical advantages of Humen and YANTIAN, fostering a concentration of imports and exports in the Greater Bay Area, thereby providing substantial support for maritime exchanges and economic development between the two places.

Water-Gate Operation (WGO)
Water-Gate operation model involves unloading imported goods from international container vessels at YANTIAN, then transporting them via feeder services to domestic feeder terminals, and finally delivering them to domestic factories.

It signifies a significant initiative by YANTIAN to propel "road to water" transportation transformation, extending port support service functions deep into the heartland of the Pearl River Delta. Leveraging the capabilities of the empty container transfer centres of YANTIAN and Yantian Port Logistics Group, it enhances the efficiency of imported empty containers. Furthermore, by designating Dongguan Humen Port as an extension area for YANTIAN's empty container services, it provides comprehensive solutions for managing empty containers between the two ports. By alleviating the strain on land transportation, this model facilitates the swift circulation of import and export cargoes between international hub ports and inland feeder terminals. It also streamlines the process for local exports through the YANTIAN-Dongguan express feeder service, promoting container circulation, reducing dispatching costs of enterprises, and fostering a virtuous cycle of import-driven export.

In the first quarter of 2024, YANTIAN experienced an impressive 100% year-on-year surge in domestic feeder WGO imports. The YANTIAN-Humen express feeder service, enabled by WGO of feeder imported cargoes, ensures robust stability in capacity and timeliness, and uninterrupted availability of cargo space and containers. Serving as a dedicated link between two crucial hubs, it operates between Dongguan Humen Port and YANTIAN, establishing a direct sea transportation corridor for import and export operations within the Greater Bay Area, effectively bridging key industrial parks and cargo catchment areas.

Crystal Pang, Deputy General Manager of Commercial Department of YANTIAN, and Luo Junxiao, Senior Commercial Manager of the Multimodal Transport Service Department of YANTIAN, delivered engaging and informative business presentations, followed by insightful Q&A sessions.

The event was further enriched by the presence of distinguished customer representatives, including Wang Hui, Deputy General Manager of Jiangling Motors Import & Export, and Yuan Chunyan, Director of the Foreign Trade Department at Bisen Access, who generously shared their perspectives and expertise.

Rail transport, renowned for its robust carrying capacity and cost-effectiveness, provides a transportation solution with minimal natural constraints and unparalleled stability. With the establishment of an inland port in Nanchang, cargo owners can seamlessly manage local container pickup and return services. YANTIAN strategically positions our port services in Nanchang, ensuring that customers have access to the comprehensive range of offerings available at a world-class major port.

As the exclusive railway with direct access to YANTIAN, YANTIAN rail-sea service has experienced consistent double-digit growth over the past five years, from 2019 to 2023, reaching an unprecedented peak in 2023.

Relevant data show that the ratio of carbon emissions per unit between railway and road transport is approximately 1:11. Each train serving the rail-sea service reduces carbon emissions equivalent to those produced by 100 heavy trucks, playing a crucial role in mitigating environmental pollution and preventing safety incidents. Furthermore, it effectively reduces energy consumption costs, alleviates traffic congestion, refines transportation systems, and advances the fulfilment of the "dual-carbon goals."

Currently, YANTIAN has established 14 inland ports, 31 rail-sea services, 10 port alliances, and 17 feeder services, spanning across the Greater Bay Area, Southwest, and Central China regions. YANTIAN remains steadfast in our commitment to actively implementing national development strategies, fostering continuous connectivity with more inland ports, enhancing competitiveness in the shipping market, and providing enhanced logistics services for customers. This dedication contributes positively to the ongoing improvement of an advanced shipping hub and stable industrial and supply chains, supporting initiatives for carbon peak and carbon neutrality, and advocating for the high-quality development of international trade in China.
