On 25 July 2009, trial operations began at a new berth at YICT's Expansion Project. To date, YICT has a total of 15 container berths.
The new berth covers a land area of 38.87 hectares and has a 419.2-metre-long quay with a depth alongside and of approach channel of 16 metres respectively. The new berth can accommodate 12,000-TEU mega-vessels using eight dual-hoist, tandem-lift quay cranes. Each of these cranes has an outreach of 65 metres and can handle two 40-foot containers simultaneously.
HPH and Yantian Port Group (YPG) signed a joint-venture contract to develop the 10 billion-yuan YICT Expansion Project on 8 November 2005. The project includes the construction of six deep-water container berths.
