On 4 August 2009, YICT held a ceremony to commemorate the official launching of its electric rubber-tyred gantry cranes (eRTGC). YICT now has 114 eRTGCs in operation.
To reduce port emissions and save fuel, YICT began a project to reconfigure its diesel cranes to run on an electric power grid in 2007. eRTGCs emit up to 95 percent less exhaust, use up to 80 percent less fuel and emit about 45 percent less noise than standard RTGCs.
YICT's eRTGCs are connected to an electric interlocking system and have been designed according to rigorous safety standards in order to ensure round-the-clock operation in all weather conditions.
The realisation of the electrification project was made possible in part by the support of the Shenzhen Power Supply Bureau, the Shenzhen Trade and Industry Bureau and the Shenzhen Environmental Protection Bureau.
