Following a recent appraisal of YICT's water-conservation efforts, the Water-conservation Steering Committee of Shenzhen Municipality has honored the terminal operator with its 2006 "Advanced Water-Saving Enterprise" award – a distinction shared by just 20 companies in Shenzhen.
Organisations that win the award must comply with national water-conservation guidelines, passing an assessment with a score of 85 or higher. They must also have taken the initiative to promote water saving through research and adoption of related technologies.
In 2006, YICT reduced water consumption by nearly 9,000 cubic metres through a series of measures including water-consumption monitoring, replacement of wasteful sanitary fixtures, and reconfiguration of water-supply facilities. YICT has also arranged for relevant staff members to undergo a training programme that focuses on maintenance of water-supply systems in the port area.
This is not the first time YICT’s efforts to preserve the environment have been recognised. In January of this year, the terminal operator earned a waste-reduction award from the Pengcheng Waste Reduction Steering Committee. Together, these two awards show YICT’s commitment to sustainable growth within Shenzhen.
