On 7 April 2007, YICT welcomed the maiden vessel call of the 8,400-TEU "Maersk Seville" deployed by Maersk to its new European service, the Europe-Far East (AE10) Service Westbound (AE10W). Moreover, Maersk's Europe-Far East (AE7) Service Westbound (AE7W) called at Yantian on 9 April, bringing the total number of shipping services at Yantian to 82.
Both services are part of Maersk's Asia-Europe routes. To better cope with increasing shipping demands due to the rapidly growing Asia-Europe trade, Maersk has adjusted the port rotation of its original AE10W and AE7W services.
The AE10W service calls at YICT every Saturday with seven 8,400-TEU container vessels deployed to the line-haul route, which now includes a port rotation of Shanghai, Ningbo, Xiamen, Yantian, Hong Kong, Suez Canal, Port Said, Felixstowe, Zeebrugge, Dunkerque, Malaga, Valencia and Suez Canal.
The AE7W service calls at Yantian every Sunday and now includes a port rotation of Hong Kong, Yantian, Tanjung Pelepas, Suez Canal, Algeciras, Rotterdam, Bremerhaven, Algeciras, Suez Canal and Tanjung Pelepas.
With the approaching peak shipping season, more shipping services are expected to call at Yantian to provide higher service levels to and greater flexibility for exporters in South China.
