On 22 January 2007, YICT was presented with an Environmental Protection Certificate from the Shenzhen Pengcheng Waste Reduction Steering Committee for its conscientious efforts to reduce waste and protect the environment.

As a leading container terminal operator in South China, YICT is not only deeply committed to improving terminal production and service standards; it also takes the responsibility it has to the wider community very seriously, supporting a number of environmental initiatives that seek to conserve energy and safeguard the earth's natural resources too. In 2007, YICT intends to implement over 70 environmental protection projects, which will include the replacement of old equipment with new modern energy-efficient ones, a reduction in the electrical output of the facility's quay cranes through the modification of circuits and modes of operation, the systematic up-grade of the rubber-tyred gantry cranes whereby which diesel-powered engines will be replaced with electric-powered engines.

Moreover, YICT intends to automate its office space and install an automatically controlled central air conditioning unit, a solar-powered heating system, smart, energy-saving street lamps, as well as heighten the environmental awareness of its staff.

The "Pengcheng Waste Reduction Programme" was launched by the Shenzhen Municipal Government in April 2006, as a tool to encourage Shenzhen enterprises to become more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.
