YICT, one of the largest joint-venture companies in Guangdong province, was granted an award of "100 Star Enterprises of Overseas Chinese in China, 2003-2005" in recognition of its outstanding contributions to the economy and society, at a ceremony held in the People's Great Hall in Beijing. Senior government officials including Mr. Tang Jiaxuan, State Councillor, attended the event organised by the Office of the Overseas Chinese Affairs of the State Council of the People's Republic of China.

YICT was one of only two enterprises selected by the State Panel Committee, which comprised the Overseas Chinese Affairs Committee of the National People's Congress, the Office of the Overseas Chinese Affairs of the State Council and the Committee for Liaison with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, to represent Shenzhen.  This is the second time that YICT has received this honour and the only terminal operator to have received this award in two consecutive years.

YICT's annual throughput has increased from 13,000 TEU in 1994 to 7.66 million TEU in 2005. This rapid growth of YICT reflects its ongoing commitment to enhance terminal operations, and it also illustrates YICT's successful development into the region's preferred port of call for exporters in the South China area to despatch their cargoes.

YICT's success to date has spurred the development of related industries including shipping agents, forwarders, Customs agents, transportation and warehousing, creating over 100,000 jobs in the process. Furthermore, with daily shipments departing Yantian, Shenzhen has forged close working relationships with 130 port cities around the globe, the results of which has firmly established Shenzhen's status as an excellent port for exports and a maritime hub.

The Office of the Overseas Chinese Affairs of the State Council, organiser of the review and selection of the "100 Star Enterprises of Overseas Chinese in China, 2003-2005", remarked, "Overseas Chinese and Hong Kong and Macao compatriots have made great contributions to the economic development of China." YICT has performed well as an enterprise. The company has not only provided the shipping industry, importers and exporters with world-class container terminal services, but has also proactively taken part in the development of Shenzhen to ensure the city's hub status in South China.
