On 7 March 2006, 34 shipping lines signed a renewal of the "Vessel Pre-inspection Agreement" with Yantian Frontier Inspection at Yantian. A representative of one of the shipping lines remarked that an average of one hour could be saved for line-haul vessels when berthing at the terminal since the signing of the initial agreement in 2004. The savings is a result of terminal operations being allowed to start on the vessels immediately upon their arrival. Furthermore, declaration applications can be made via the Internet. These efforts not only help reduce operating costs and berthing times for the shipping lines, but also provide convenience for vessels berthing at the port.

An official with Yantian Frontier Inspection expressed that the agreement results from years of mutual trust and cooperation between the Frontier Inspection, YICT and the shipping lines. The Frontier Inspection will continue to support the development of Yantian Port and work with all related parties to continue to provide convenience for port users in the future.
