On 24 September 2004, Yantian International Container Terminals (YICT) is pleased to launch the fourth berth of the Phase III Project. This final berth increases YICT's total number of container berths to nine. Prior to the launch, experts inspected and ranked the construction quality of the berth as "excellent".

With completion of the four berths, YICT's handling capacity will be increased by 80 per cent. The Phase III Project has not only increased opportunities for YICT's future development, but has also contributed to strengthening Shenzhen's role in the port and shipping industry.

As a major infrastructure development in Shenzhen, the Phase III Project comprises four 9,000-plus TEU container berths, occupying a total area of 90 hectares. The water depth along quayside is 16 metres while the total quay length is 1,400 metres. The Phase III Project is equipped with 18 of state-of-the-art quay cranes with an outreach of 65 metres and 66 rubber-tyred gantry cranes. The equipment is designed to accommodate the world's latest generation of vessels.

It is estimated that the entire Phase III Project will be completed by the end of 2005.
