On 26 November 2003, the second berth of YICT's Phase III entered use, following the launch of the first berth of YICT's Phase III in mid-October. With the commencement of the second berth, YICT is raising its customer service standards again, to generate bigger benefits for shipping lines, shippers, and other customers.
Constructed to the same engineering specifications as the first berth of Phase III, the second berth is also a 100,000-ton-plus container berth with a water depth of 16 metres. The two berths have been equipped with seven quay cranes and 27 rubber-tyred gantry cranes. An area of about 140,000 sq m of container yard has been completed to support quay side operations.
Another 50,000 sq m of container yard will be built and three more quay cranes will be delivered within the year. The remaining two berths of Phase III will be completed by the middle and end of 2004 respectively. The entire project is due for completion by the end of 2005.
