Under the support of the General Administration of Customs, Shenzhen Customs, Shenzhen Municipal Government and Yantian District Government, YANTIAN’s application for establishing a supervision facility for imported meat was approved. With an area of 30,000 m², of which more than 2,000 m² is an integrated cold-chain facility for supervision and storage, the project has 29 slots for container inspection, two cold rooms with adjustable temperature ranging from 4℃ to -18℃. Moreover, except sample pretreatment room, sensory inspection room, sampling room, sample storage room, pandemic emergency room, and information equipment room, the facility is also equipped with offices for the customs, with a complete inspection and scheduling system, video surveillance system and cold storage management system. The whole process, from in-gate and out-gate, inspection, storage to release of cargo, are under strict supervision in accordance with the requirements of the customs.

In recent years, with the increasing demand for cross-border cold chain logistics, YANTIAN has been committed to developing cold chain service for importers and exporters, handling over 100,000 TEUs of reefer cargo annually. Given its advantages in long-haul shipping routes and service excellence, YANTIAN has become the third largest port for imported frozen meat in China and the preferred port-of-call for imported cold chain products in South China, accounting for more than 90% of all imported frozen meat in Shenzhen. From January to October 2021, YANTIAN handled nearly 120,000 TEUs of imported reefer containers, up 20% year-on-year, and 30,000 TEUs of exported reefer containers, up 7% year-on-year. While maintaining the advantage in imported frozen meat, YANTIAN is also expanding the imported fruit service, and will introduce new fruit like Chilean cherries in the near future. The supervision facility for imported meat at YANTIAN is a crucial component in YANTIAN's business plan layout for imported cold-chain cargo, and also an important platform for Shenzhen Port to further expand and strengthen its imported cold-chain cargo sector. Up to now, there are three cold-chain facilities operators off-dock, Ruiyuan, Baohui and Shenzhen Agricultural Products. Next year, with the completion of Yantian Port Intelligent Cold Chain Industrial Park and YOU’RE Your Sender Supply Chain Intelligent Warehouse, the overall cold storage area in Yantian Port will be doubled. These new cold-chain complexes will provide one-stop supporting services for customers in the frozen food industry, helping YANTIAN to establish itself as a key port and trading center for reefer cargo in the Greater Bay Area.
