Recently, the container terminal project of YANTIAN's West Port received the Luban Prize from the China Construction Industry Association, and is the only container port project winning the accolade.

At the same time, the West Port also won the National Quality Engineering Award from China Association of Construction Enterprise Management, becoming the only project to clinched the two awards.

Luban Prize, which is one of China's highest accolades for civil engineering and construction, is directed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and evaluated by the China Construction Industry Association. The National Quality Engineering Award is a cross-industry national quality award in engineering and construction projects, which is recognised by the State Council.

So far, the Phases II, III and Expansion and the West Port have won a total of 6 national engineering awards, including three Luban Prizes, one Tien-Yow Jeme Prize and two National Quality Engineering Awards, which is very rare in the construction projects of China’s port industry. These achievements are testament to the technological excellence, rigorous management and quality engineering of YANTIAN’s projects.

YANTIAN’s engineering and construction projects are of a consistently high standard

The West Port Project adheres to YANTIAN's tradition of high-quality construction. It upholds the concept of quality engineering and long endurance of the Ministry of Transport and principles of "innovation, coordination, environmental protection, openness, and sharing" to ensure no major overhauls of the project's main structures would be needed within the next 50 years. The West Port Project contains three 50,000-ton container berths and supporting facilities. It adopts the beam-type high pile structure and high-performance concrete interlocking blocks for the surface, with a designed annual throughput capacity of 1.8 million TEU. The project requires high standards for quality and construction techniques, so when designing the project, the construction team focused on its durability, with standardised and meticulous construction. In view of the complex geology and the large number of steel pipe piles which tend to tilt during the pile-sinking, the team flexibly adopted a variety of techniques, such as orientation method, fixed lifting method and so on to prevent accidents. During the construction, the team insisted on the policy of "safety first" and conducted comprehensive management. Therefore, no safety and environmental accidents occurred during the entire construction process. It is also worth mentioning that as an eco-friendly and energy-saving project, the West Port deploys eRTGCs, significantly reducing the operating cost and carbon footprint of the port.

The CCCC Fourth Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd. is the main contractor of Phases II, III and Expansion Projects and the West Port Project. According to Mr. Liang Zhuoren, Secretary of the CPC Committee and General Manager of CCCC Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Regional Headquarters, the Fourth Harbor Engineering upholds the philosophy of serving the market with integrity, achieving the goal with team spirit, improving efficiency with management, and rewarding the owner with high-quality products, and gives full play to the advantages of key technologies in the construction of large ports, bridges, hydraulic architecture, and so on, with all efforts to create "five-star ports".

All efforts to build a green, smart and efficient
international shipping center

YANTIAN is the world's largest port run by a singer terminal operator in terms of throughput. Since its inception, it has maintained high standards in terminal development and operational efficiency, with an annual throughput of 14 million TEU, making it the preferred port of call for mega-vessels and an important gateway for China's international trade. At present, Phases I, II, III and Expansion and the West Port of YANTIAN handle one container every two seconds, setting new throughput records one after another.

Lawrence Shum, Managing Director of Hutchision Ports YANTIAN, said, "The two national awards greatly motivates our teams to set a new world record for our annual throughput in the first year of the “14th Five-Year Plan”. These awards represent the recognition of YANTIAN's technological excellence, quality engineering and innovative management from the industry and society. For the development of the East Port Project, we will continue to make all efforts to create a green, smart and efficient international shipping center, contributing to the high-quality development of China's international trade and the stability of global supply chain.”
