At the beginning of the New Year, YANTIAN launched YANTIAN-Dongguan Port Alliance and YANTIAN-Jiangmen Intermodal Service, further improving the multimodal transport service network in the Greater Bay Area.
YANTIAN-Dongguan Port Alliance
On February 10, the feeder "Hui Hai Long 07" carrying the first export shipment under “YANTIAN-Dongguan Alliance” mode arrived YANTIAN from Dongguan, marking the launch of “YANTIAN-Dongguan Alliance”, a new member of the port alliance in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.
In the past, enterprises had to go through clearance procedures in two places separately. Now under the alliance port model, they can enjoy one-stop cargo declaration, inspection, and release. In addition, the "priority inspection" service can help customers complete the appointment, inspection, and release within 4 hours, shortening the overall clearance time by over 24 hours.
The official launch of YANTIAN-Dongguan Alliance demonstrates the achievement of Shenzhen and Dongguan customs departments in further streamlining the process and optimising the efficiency of customs inspection and clearance, which will further bring into play the advantages of manufacturing industry in Dongguan and YANTIAN as a world-class container hub port.
In 2019, YANTIAN worked with Shenzhen Customs to launch the first port alliance in the Greater Bay Area--"YANTIAN-Huizhou Alliance", which steadily increased the export of laiden containers. In 2021, the import and export of laiden containers through YANTIAN-Huizhou Alliance increased by 66.5%. In the future, as YANTIAN continues to develop port alliance in the Greater Bay Area, the overall competitiveness of the Greater Bay Area port group will continue to be strengthened, and the transportation system will be further improved.
YANTIAN-Jiangmen Intermodal Service
Recently, the YANTIAN-Jiangmen Intermodal Service jointly developed by YANTIAN, Pingyan Railway, and CIMC was officially put into operation. The first train, which was loaded with household goods, daily necessities, metal parts and other types of cargo, arrived at Yantian Port from Xinhui District, Jiangmen City, Guangdong Province.
YANTIAN-Jiangmen Intermodal Service is 281 kilometers long, with two direct services on a weekly basis. YANTIAN provides inland port service at Jiangmen Station, so enterprises can go through the container pickup and grounding procedures at Jiangmen Station, and then export them at Yantian Port through the intermodal service. Xinhui District of Jiangmen City is an important base of export-oriented economy in the western part of the Pearl River Delta, and the intermodal service will provide smooth, convenient, and economical logistics services for the economic hinterland, optimising the regional transportation structure.
YANTIAN is one of forerunners to provide intermodal services in China. In recent years, it has established six inland ports in Hunan, Changping, Ganzhou, Heyuan, Heshan and Liling, and launched 23 intermodal services, with the intermodal service throughput generated by international trade in the forefront of domestic ports. Following the 34% growth in the annual throughput of intermodal service in 2021, in January this year, the throughput generated by intermodal service increased by 102% year-on-year, and the export laden container volume boosted by 197%. Moreover, Pingyan Railway set two operational efficiencies in a row: "10 in and 10 out" of trains in a single day and a new daily throughput record of 1,324 TEU, breaking last year's record of 1,180 TEU.
At the end of 2021, the "Yantian Port’s Asia-Pacific-Pan-Pearl River Delta-Europe International Multimodal Service Project" passed the acceptance of the Ministry of Transport and the National Development and Reform Commission, and was awarded the title of "National Multimodal Service Demonstration Project".
Develop Multimodal Transport to Optimise the Transport Structure
The General Office of the State Council recently issued the "Work Plan for Optimising and Adjusting Transport Structure by Promoting Multimodal Transport Development (2021-2025)", which proposed to vigorously develop multimodal transport, promote the integration of various modes of transport, and further optimise and adjust the transport structure to improve transport efficiency, reduce logistics costs, and promote energy conservation, emission reduction and carbon reduction.
The port alliance and intermodal services can greatly save customers' time and logistics costs and improve overall transport efficiency. They also accelerate the "road-to-rail" and "road-to-water" transformation of bulk cargo and medium- and long-distance transportation cargo, significantly saving energy and reducing emission.
Lawrence Shum, Managing Director of YANTIAN, said, "YANTIAN is taking a proactive stance to implement the national development strategic plan. Thanks to the strong support of governments at all levels, customs and other port supervisory authorities, YANTIAN-Dongguan Port Alliance and YANTIAN-Jiangmen Intermodal Service start to operation. In the future, YANTIAN will continue to work together with all parties to vigorously develop multimodal transport, optimise the role of Shenzhen Port as a national logistics hub, better serve the high-quality economic development of the Greater Bay Area. We will make a continuous effort to contribute to the goal of achieving carbon neutrality and carbon peak, and stabilise the supply chain of international trade".
