Year after year, they pursue excellence, pushing the limits of their skills while continuously challenging themselves and growing. Masters of their craft, they are attuned to every subtle nuance of the machinery, ensuring each lift is executed with flawless precision. With eyes sharp as an eagle's, they detect even the slightest movement of cargo from high above. In the face of challenges, they charge forward without hesitation. The "Iron Men" never falter. With swift reactions and unwavering composure, they ensure the safe and efficient operation of YANTIAN.

To further enhance the operational skills and technical expertise of the "Iron Men" at YANTIAN, ignite team enthusiasm, and foster the spirit of craftsmanship, the 2024 YANTIAN RTGC Skills Competition, jointly organised by the Operations Services and Development Department of YANTIAN and the YANTIAN Trade Union, has successfully concluded. This competition was not just a test of skill, but a tribute to the front-line workers of YANTIAN, who relentlessly refine their craft and remain dedicated to providing exceptional service to global customers,

#Skills competition: striving for excellence

The purpose of this competition is to foster communication and learning among GTRC operators through hands-on challenges, collectively enhancing operational skills, improving safety awareness, and strengthening team cohesion. The event employed a digital infrared scoring system to ensure fair and transparent results. Employees from 7 organizations, including YANTIAN and contractors, participated in the competition, with a total of 200 contestants. With great passion and professionalism, they demonstrated their exceptional skills and expertise, showcasing their talent and dedication.

The competition events and schedule were designed to mirror the daily operations at YANTIAN, aligning with technological advancements and the evolving needs of the industry. The competition is forward-looking and industry-leading, setting higher standards for operational precision and consistency. The format is both innovative and instructive, thoroughly assessing contestants' abilities to navigate tight spaces, ensure accuracy and agility in placing and removing containers, perform micro-control and precise positioning, and maintain operational efficiency. At the same time, it also evaluates contestants' psychological resilience and emergency response capabilities under pressure.

#National-level craftsmen: service upgrades without limits

The conclusion of the skill competition marks a new chapter for the "Iron Men." YANTIAN organizes various skill competitions every year, including those for GTRCs, reachstackers, tractors, container vessels, and gate operations, providing employees with extensive platforms to showcase their skills and enhance their expertise. This not only elevates the overall skill level and service quality but also ensures that we can deliver more efficient and valuable services to global customers.

YANTIAN is dedicated to supporting the development of a world-class port, actively nurturing technical talent within the port industry. To date, we have trained 16 national, provincial, and municipal-level technical experts and has won 10 national, provincial, and municipal labour awards. We vigorously promote the spirit of model workers and craftsmanship, inspiring more workers—especially the younger generation—to pursue careers grounded in skill and contribute to the country through their expertise. This effort supports key strategies such as "Made in China," "Industry Boosts YANTIAN, Innovation Drives Development," and the cultivation of high-skilled talent to promote the high-quality development of Shenzhen's "20+8" industrial clusters. Through this, YANTIAN plays a pivotal role in advancing the training of skilled professionals in the port industry.
