First YICT Crane Operating Competition
A A A 缩小 加大 更大

"Eight-point ring, nine-point ring and another eight-point ring!"

This is not the Olympics shooting event; instead it is one with containers being hoisted and loaded at one of the berths in YICT. On 17 July 2008, YICT held its first Crane Operating Competition. The competition consists of two parts: the quay crane operating event and the rubber-tyred gantry crane (RTGC) operating event.

Seated inside the cabin of a quay crane over 40 metres high, competing drivers operate the spreaders with remarkable accuracy, touching the objects on the ground under different "operating" conditions. Winners were chosen based on the accuracy of the contact points.

Competitions like this help enhance the operating skills of quay crane and RTGC operators. YICT has a specialised skills training team and offers a variety of training programmes to staff, including courses on mechanical principles, container handling as well as quay crane simulator training. YICT also provides library services and on-line learning facilities for self-study. Besides an emphasis on improving the overall competence of staff, YICT commits itself to selecting those with the right potential and attitude, nurturing their talents which in turn will help the company achieve its mission and vision, thus realising a win-win situation between employees and the company.

The winners of this competition will participate in the "2008 Shenzhen Vocational Skills Competition" held every three years. And it will be first time ever that an event for port crane operating skill is to be held.
